How did Kale become a Thing?
From Marketing Director, Amber Parrow What would you do with 12 pounds of chopped kale? When I do photoshoots of our producer's items, I am often left with a LOT of vegetables and I try to pass them on to friends and family. So when I received a case of kale, I knew...
FAQ
About Sourcing for Fresh Produce
What type of produce does Fresh Avenue offer?
Fresh Avenue is a grower/shipper of a wide variety of items that we pack in our own Green Light label. These items include cilantro, Italian parsley, curly parsley, green onions, spinach, napa cabbage, bok choy, kale, endive, escarole, leeks, radishes, and more.
In addition, with our extensive grower base and our experienced team, we can source much more from any of the western growing regions: leafy greens from Salinas and Santa Maria, citrus from the San Joaquin Valley, carrots from Bakersfield, apples and pears from Washington, and grapes from Fresno. We can source it for you!
What if I need produce items that Fresh Avenue doesn't grow through GreenLight?
Items unavailable through the Green Light label are easily sourced through our expansive grower network by our purchasing team. This includes key growers throughout the United States including leafy greens, cabbage, tender greens, citrus, berries, stone fruit, apples, tomatoes, grapes, carrots, and more.
What type of produce or produce items can Fresh Avenue source?
Our extensive grower network, which includes over 100 growers, shippers, and processors, is available to build out mixed loads. We have multiple time-per-week transfers of products like romaine, iceberg lettuce, green leaf, onion, strawberries, citrus, cabbage, spinach, tender greens, carrots, apples, pears, organics, and specialty items from all points of origin around the West Coast and many ports of entry.
Why should I source through Fresh Avenue?
All together our team has many connections, ties, and knowledge of the growers throughout the industry. In particular they look for mid-size growers that have excellent produce and are able to scale for national chains, but are not-so-big that they aren’t agile to a customer’s specific needs. Additionally we know growers with hard-to-find specialty items, the perfect balance of scale and agility, and little known best-in-season finds.
Isn't sourcing a different way to say that you are a broker?
To a degree, most everyone in produce is involved in produce brokerage. It’s impossible for any one grower to have the wide variety available with fresh fruits and vegetables, and often to combine items on one load, growers will source other items for their customers. This is exactly what we do, if our customer needs a certain set of items, we’ll source them from our own label and bring in our growing network for the rest.
